The Tipperary Rural Travellers? Project promotes the empowerment of
Travellers at every level to negotiate and create their own solutions
to the issues of accommodation, education and discrimination.
The role of the Traveller Men?s Development Worker is to be
responsible for the overall development and co-ordination of the South
Tipperary Men?s Project and to raise the capacity of the community.
The worker will be based in Tipperary Town and Cashel and be expected
to outreach to Travellers in the catchment area of the Project.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TRAVELLER MEN?S DEVELOPMENT WORKER:
* At least 2 years? experience of working in a related position.
* Knowledge and understanding of Traveller?issues, especially the
issues faced by Traveller men.
* An understanding of community development approaches.?
* Ability to create initiatives and programs within the Traveller
community.
* Commitment to and understanding of community development values
and principles.
* Excellent organisational, time management, administrative and
report writing skills.
* Excellent communication skills within Traveller community.
* Experience of group facilitation and community consultation.
* Experience of working in partnership with statutory and voluntary
organizations to achieve community benefit.
* The ability to engage with and motivate people in the Traveller
community.
* Ability to partake in flexible working hours. ?
* Current driver?s license and own transport.
* Computer Literacy. ?
DUTIES OF THE TRAVELLER MEN?S DEVELOPMENT WORKER ROLE:
* To be committed to, and work at all times from the principles of
Community Development, e.g. equality, respect, consultation,
anti-discrimination, inclusion, collective action, participation to
empower Traveller Men to bring about positive change in their lives
and community.
* To engage in Outreach work with Traveller Men living in the local
area of the project, namely Cahir, Cashel, Tipperary Town, Clonmel and
Killenaule with a view to informing Traveller men about the existence
of the project and subsequently to involve them in the work of the
project.
* To facilitate and evaluate training including planning and
organising literacy and numeracy classes and computer classes.
* To plan and organise medical check-ups for Traveller men.
* To deliver one to one support to Traveller men in South Tipperary.
* To support project participants with their ongoing training.
* To provide mentoring to participants to ensure their ongoing
participation in the project.
* To report to relevant statutory agencies.
* To engage with state agencies involved in policy work with
Traveller men.
* To liaise and network with other relevant statutory, voluntary and
sporting bodies.
* To contribute to local, regional and national policy development
on Traveller men.
* To report to the South Tipperary Traveller Men?s Project
Steering Committee at regular intervals through written progress
reports.
* To report to the project co-ordinator and management committee of
Tipperary Rural Travellers? Project through written progress reports
and monthly planning.
* To attend staff meetings as required.
* To participate in Tipperary Rural Travellers?? Project
